commitment to data

Through its participation in aviation industry organizations, United Technologies is helping to fund research that explores opportunities for sustainable development of the aviation industry. The work we are doing collectively is taking sustainable aviation further – and higher – than ever before.

Our Approach

Our approach to green aviation stretches from ground level to 30,000 feet and beyond. It starts in green manufacturing facilities and continues with products in the air, including Pratt & Whitney’s PurePower® Geared Turbofan™ jet engine family, which delivers game-changing reductions in fuel burn, environmental emissions, jet engine noise and operating costs. UTC Aerospace Systems’ electric driven generators and actuators, efficient climate control systems, LED cabin lights and carbon brakes are helping to make aircraft lighter and more fuel efficient. Leveraging their unique expertise, Pratt & Whitney and UTC Aerospace Systems are joining together to develop integrated nacelle technology that will accommodate the larger fan size of the PurePower® Geared Turbofan™ jet engine while significantly reducing jet engine fuel burn and noise.
