2018 FIRST Grant Application Is Now Open

Do you want to inspire and motivate young minds to pursue their STEM passions? Would you like to enhance your coaching and leadership skills and connect with a network of like-minded colleagues? Getting involved with FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) provides opportunities to mentor students from kindergarten through high school. Through FIRST, UTC employees empower the next generation of innovators, inventors and advanced manufacturing professionals to move the world forward.

Learn more about students’ and UTC mentors’ experiences from last year’s FIRST Robotics Competition: FIRST Steamworks.

This year marks UTC’s 23rd consecutive year as a FIRST presenting sponsor, having contributed more than $8 million to date. Last year, through team grants and employee mentors, UTC supported 235 teams in 25 states and three Canadian provinces.

UTC is now accepting team grant applications for the 2017-2018 FIRST season. Team grant amounts will be based on team type as outlined below:

  • FIRST Robotics: $4,000
  • FIRST Tech Challenge: $300
  • FIRST LEGO League: $300
  • FIRST LEGO League, Jr.: $250

To qualify for a UTC grant, teams must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Teams should have at least one mentor who is an employee of UTC or a UTC business unit (UTC Climate, Controls & Security; Otis; Pratt & Whitney; UTC Aerospace Systems; United Technologies Research Center).
  • Teams must compete in at least one FIRST district and/or regional competition during the 2017-2018 season.

It is required that applications for United Technologies Corporation (UTC) Team Grants for the 2017-2018 FIRST season be completed by a UTC employee mentor. Applications that have not been completed by a UTC employee mentor – with full professional contact info – will not be accepted.

DEADLINE: Applications will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 3. Employee mentors will be notified of their teams’ grant application status by Monday, November 13.
