The system uses the natural refrigerant carbon dioxide (CO2) – which is affordable, abundant and naturally occurring – to drive sustainability and performance in a broad range of commercial refrigeration and transport refrigeration solutions around the globe.
A Natural Refrigerant
Compared to a conventional hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) direct expansion refrigeration system, a CO2 commercial refrigeration installation provides about a 10 percent improvement in energy efficiency on average in mild to cold climate conditions. CO2 is a natural refrigerant, and the use of repurposed CO2 within the system results in no additional greenhouse gases being generated from refrigerant use.
In addition to refrigeration, CO2OLtec Integral system can be used to meet all of a food retail building’s heating and cooling requirements, eliminating the need for traditional heating systems and maintaining an optimal temperature for customers, staff and products all year round. All the waste heat created during the refrigeration process can be collected and redistributed for heating via the CO2OLheat™ module. During cold months, the system is able to leverage an incorporated heat pump to generate additional heat. In warmer months, the system also enables cooling. In some instances, applying the CO2OLtec Integral solution enables unprecedented levels of energy efficiency, cutting energy costs by 35 percent while reducing greenhouse gas emissions by more than 50 percent.
