Product Sustainability


The design and engineering choices we make in product development can have profound effects on reducing our overall environmental impact. Products designed with sustainability in mind can transform markets. From reduced fuel consumption and emissions to improved energy efficiency, UTC products are helping to address some of the world’s biggest challenges.

Since entering into service in early 2016, the GTF engine has demonstrated its promised ability to reduce fuel burn by 16 percent, to reduce NOx emissions by 50 percent to the regulatory standard and to lower the noise footprint by 75 percent.

Otis's Gen2® system uses flexible polyurethane steel-reinforced belts in place of steel cables and features ReGen® drive technology — innovations that reduce energy consumption by as much as 75 percent under normal operation compared with conventional systems without regenerative technology.

Carrier's NaturaLINE® unit, which uses natural refrigerant CO2, can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 28 percent compared with previous units using synthetic refrigerant.

UTC Aerospace Systems' SmartProbe® Air Data System reduces the number of sensors and pneumatic pressure lines, resulting in weight savings of up to 50 percent when compared to traditional systems, thereby reducing fuel burn.
